Chelsea Tie Down Pedro Neto With Five-Year Deal After Man City Snub

Chelsea have secured Pedro Neto on a long-term contract, rewarding a winger who chose to stay put when several Premier League rivals came calling.

The Portugal international has agreed a five-year deal with an option for a further season, and the new terms include a pay rise. Manchester City were among the clubs that tracked Neto over the summer, but the 26-year-old made it clear he wanted to remain at Stamford Bridge and work under Xabi Alonso.

That decision looks a good one for both parties. Alonso has deployed Neto as an attacking wingback, a role that suits his pace and directness, and he has responded with two goals in five appearances this season. Across his time in west London he now has 40 goal involvements, since arriving from Wolves for £54m in 2024.

The new contract continues a pattern at the club. João Pedro, Reece James and Moisés Caicedo have all been handed improved terms this year, while Cole Palmer signed an extended deal in 2024 and spoke last season of his commitment to Chelsea's future. Locking in the core of the squad has clearly become a priority.

There is a wider picture here too. Chelsea are understood to have felt that selling Enzo Fernández to City was the right move, and keeping Neto shows they are willing to be selective about who leaves. Holding on to a player rivals wanted, and doing so with his full backing, sends a message about where the project is heading.
